This program prepares you with the knowledge, skills, and technical expertise to enter the marketplace as a financial planner or financial counselor. It also gives you the education requirement needed to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) Certification Exam and/or the Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) exam.

This degree is offered in an intimate setting that caters to non-traditional college-age students, working professionals or seniors seeking to make a career transition or earn a degree from a leading education partner in the field. Benefits include gaining expertise and personally relevant information in wealth management, retirement planning, estate planning and tax planning and other areas of financial planning. Students can take classes full-time or part-time and can complete the degree requirements at their own pace.
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for Griffin students are:
- 60 or more completed hours of transferable credit by the application deadline,
- graduated from high school at least 12 months prior to the term of intended enrollment,
- completed at least one year of college by the term of intended enrollment, and
- a 2.8 or higher calculated transfer GPA.

Certifications & Opportunities
UGA’s Financial Planning Program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., and the Association of Financial Counseling and Planning Education. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) examinations upon completion of the program. All Griffin students who desire to sit for these exams must choose the financial planning emphasis to meet the education requirement.
One of the fastest growing career tracks, financial planners find employment in companies such as investment firms, banks, insurance companies, brokerage firms, and benefits and pension departments of corporation. Others are more entrepreneurial, choosing to establish their own practice.
