Quantitative Methods in Family and Social Sciences (QMFSS) Certificate

Students will develop skills in statistical and computational methods through courses in design, modeling, and data analysis. This 12-credit hour certificate is available to doctoral students in the social sciences currently enrolled at the University of Georgia.

Overview

The Quantitative Methods in Family and Social Sciences (QMFSS) Certificate at the University of Georgia, goes beyond the basic foundation of quantitative methods provided within most social science graduate programs. This certificate aims to enhance the preexisting knowledge of research methods through specialized courses in Human Development and Family Science. The certificate program attracts students from various backgrounds and departments.

Requirements & Courses

Students must complete two prerequisite courses (i.e. HDFS 7170 and HDFS 8830 or equivalent introductory data analysis courses) before applying to the certificate program. Up to one advanced data analysis course outside of HDFS is subject to approval by the QMFSS director. Students should work alongside their major professor to create a Program of Study plan included in the application form to complete the additional 12 hours of quantitative coursework. Students who successfully complete the certificate requirements, submit a completion form to Dr. Noel Card, and an approved program of study including the certificate to the UGA Graduate School will receive the certification.
