This award goes to an individual who has graduated from the college within the last 10 years and who actively promotes the beliefs and values of Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Assistant Professor of Nutritional Sciences.
- Obtained his Ph.D. in Foods and Nutrition from UGA in 2017 and completed prestigious post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
- Was an NIH-NCATS TL1 Fellow through the UPenn Clinical and Translational Science Alliance and was awarded post-doctoral fellowships from both the NIH-NIDDK and American Diabetes Association.
- His post-doctoral research on diabetes-related bone fragility during the formative years set the stage for his independent research program at UGA, which has flourished over the past 3 years.
- Serves as director of the UGA Nutrition and Skeletal Health Laboratory, which studies the intersection between diet and complex disease in the development of osteoporosis.
- Recently awarded a prestigious NIH-NCATS KL2 grant through the Georgia CTSA to study the nutritional origins of bone disease in people with cystic fibrosis. His lab is also funded by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Marcus Foundation for studies on involvement of nutrition in maintenance of optimal bone health across the lifespan.
- Has published over 35 peer-reviewed original publications, review articles, and book chapters, and has amassed over $500,000 in independent grant funding since completing his Ph.D. in 2017.
- Recipient of the FACS 2023 Early Career Faculty Research Award.
