Durso felt comfort in transferring to attend UGA with her brother

What school did you transfer from?

Georgia Southern University

Why did you decide to transfer to UGA?

Although I enjoyed attending Georgia Southern and will always be grateful for my time there, I longed for a larger community and network of people. I knew by enrolling in the rigorous education at UGA in addition to submersing myself into the amazing city of Athens, I would be granted unique opportunities and experiences. I was confident UGA was my next step. In addition, I have an older brother who also attends UGA, so I felt comforted in my decision to transfer and very welcomed in Athens.

The feeling of being a Georgia Bulldog is unparalleled. At UGA, I know I am in incredible hands and becoming my best self. I am extremely thankful for all of the opportunities that UGA and the city of Athens have brought me.

What is your major?

Fashion Merchandising with a certificate in Global Education and Leadership

I have a love and passion for all things clothing, fashion, and design but also enjoy the managerial and business side of things. My major has allowed me to take numerous business classes while also tapping into my creative side.

What activities or student organizations do you participate in?

Kappa Delta sorority, UGA Education Abroad Ambassador

What do you like about FACS?

Although I attend a large university, FACS provides a small dynamic and atmosphere in my courses. I have been able to truly get to know my professors and feel like more than just a number at UGA. I have built strong relationships with my peers and have enjoyed courses that are catered to my passion of fashion, design, and retail. My advisor and professors have been extremely supportive and have pushed me to work hard to be successful.

Is there a faculty or staff person who has been particularly helpful during your transfer journey?

I have enjoyed Dr. Yoo-Kyoung Seock's courses in textiles, merchandising, and interiors. In addition, I traveled to London, England with Professor Seock on the FACS Study Abroad Program and will always be grateful for the experiences and learning opportunities we shared. Professor Seock has shown me kindness, patience, creativity, and her love for education. I have also admired Ms. Sha'Mira Covington, a PhD Candidate and Graduate Teaching Assistant in FACS. She led our group on the NYC Study Away Maymester Program where I was able to learn just how incredible of an individual she is. She is a fun, motivating, and encouraging leader at both UGA and in society.

What has been your favorite UGA and/or FACS experience been?

I loved attending the FACS Study Abroad Program in London, England for 6 weeks and the NYC Study Away Maymester Program. I was able to gain academic credit and participate in an international internship while traveling with UGA. The memories and experiences I made were so unique and have shaped me to be the woman I am today.
