What do you love about your current role?

What I love most about being an outpatient dietitian at UGA is the opportunity to make a lasting impact during such a formative time in people’s lives. College students are navigating independence and often making their own food choices for the first time, while also managing academic stress, busy schedules, and sometimes chronic health conditions. Being able to support them, whether it's helping manage a new diagnosis or just build a healthier relationship with food, is incredibly rewarding. I also enjoy the variety. Every day is different, and I get to work with a diverse group of students. Some are getting Ph.Ds, some are international students, some are recovering from eating disorders, and others are simply trying to further their knowledge of nutrition. I love being part of their support system and helping them find realistic, sustainable strategies that fit their lifestyles. I really enjoy working for my alma matter. The energy of a college campus is unbeatable. It's a vibrant, ever-changing environment that keeps me constantly learning.

How did your time at FACS help prepare you for your life or career?:

My time with FACS was instrumental in preparing me for my career as an outpatient dietitian. The program provided a strong academic foundation in medical nutrition therapy, which I now use regularly to support patients managing conditions like eating disorders, diabetes, and GI disorders. I was also fortunate to serve as a FACS Ambassador, which allowed me to expand my leadership and communication skills. This experience strengthened my ability to connect and build rapport with people from all backgrounds, a skill I continue to utilize in my current role. Between the rigorous academic training, practical experience, and lasting mentorship, FACS prepared me to succeed in my role as a dietitian.

What advice would you give current students who aspire to a similar career?

My best advice is to get involved. The field of dietetics is incredibly broad, and the more you expose yourself to different areas, the better you'll understand where your passions lie. Join student organizations, volunteer, attend professional events, become a member of SDA, or pursue a leadership opportunity like being a FACS Ambassador. These experiences provide valuable connections and confidence.

Who was your favorite or most memorable faculty member and why?

My favorite professor is Dr. Emma Laing. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, but what really sets her apart is how supportive and encouraging she is. She made challenging topics feel enjoyable to learn and always took time to mentor her students beyond the classroom. Her guidance has had a lasting impact on my career. It has been incredibly meaningful to return as a guest lecturer for her class.
