Why I chose my major

I chose Social Entrepreneurship for Consumer Well-being because it was the only major that felt broad enough to allow me to explore all my interests while also equipping me with hard skills that would set me apart in the job market. I am passionate about human-centered design and the design thinking process, and I have a specific interest in the intersection of environmental sustainability and social equity. Furthermore, I am a fashion lover who was seeking a major interdisciplinary enough to weave in my eye for design and creative inclinations.

Majoring in Social Entrepreneurship for Consumer Well-being and minoring in Fashion Merchandising, I have gained insight into the fashion industry, conducted research on consumer experience and developed proposals for more ethical consumption and production of clothing. Through my major and minor, I have also been able to explore the worlds of 21st century education, interior design and local artisanry.

My major and minor have also overlapped with my Interdisciplinary Certificate in Sustainability. Before I knew what I wanted to major in, I knew I wanted to do something related to sustainability. When I began working toward the certificate, FACS stood out as being particularly supportive of Sustainability Certificate Students, so I knew FACS was the right place for me.

What I like most about FACS

I appreciate the flexibility and interdisciplinary nature of FACS. FACS is also a wonderful community that is not too big or too small. I feel supported by the FACS faculty and staff, especially my advisor Ahmaud Templeton! The FACS professors know the names of their students, and they care about providing them with a well-rounded education.
