Alumni Spotlight: Eric Muriuki (MSFP ’24) Vice President – Financial Consultant, Charles Schwab & Co. Atlanta, GA

After earning his Master of Science in Financial Planning in 2024, Eric Muriuki wasted no time turning academic success into professional momentum. Shortly after graduating, Eric passed the rigorous Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) exam—an achievement he describes as a major career milestone.

That momentum quickly propelled him forward. Eric shared, “Earning the CFP® designation helped me secure a promotion to Financial Consultant at Fidelity Investments. … in this role, I have the chance to build a book of business and serve as the primary advisor to my clients.” Eric went on the explain that the MSFP program was “a foundational experience that prepared me for my current position as VP–Financial Consultant at Charles Schwab, where I help clients co-create comprehensive financial plans tailored to their goals.”

How the MSFP Program Made an Impact

Eric credits the UGA online MSFP program for giving him a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving profession. “The program gave me a strong foundation in the full scope of financial planning—from investments and retirement to tax and estate planning. It positioned me for advancement in two highly desirable roles, and it’s made me very marketable during interviews. I know I made the right decision.”

Advice for Future Students

For students considering or currently enrolled in the MSFP program, Eric offers this advice:
“Really lean into the coursework. Clients will expect you to be knowledgeable across the full spectrum of financial planning. Having a solid grasp of all core areas will not only make you more confident and effective, but it will also make a strong impression with clients and potential employers.”

A Proud Moment

When asked what accomplishment he’s most proud of, Eric didn’t hesitate: “Passing the CFP® exam and graduating with my master’s degree were two goals I’m incredibly proud to have achieved. Together, they represent a tremendous sense of personal and professional accomplishment.”

Off the Clock

When he's not guiding clients through their financial journeys, Eric can likely be found on the soccer field. “I’m an absolute soccer fanatic,” he says. “Whether I’m playing in adult leagues or watching a match, soccer is a big part of my life.”
