Fashion merchandising students Vanessa Gissel, Bryce McAllister and Nicole Moreno have been named recipients of The Fashion Scholarship Fund, three of just 130 students recognized nationwide.

The students were selected out of 521 applicants, earning $7,500 scholarships each as well as complimentary travel and lodging to attend the FSF Awards Gala in New York City in April.

“We’re so proud of these students and are glad to see their efforts recognized,” faculty member Jewon Lyu said. “They all worked diligently on their case study and represented the department and college so well.”

The annual FSF Case Study Scholarship is the organization’s signature program that involves an in-depth student challenge focusing on addressing real issues facing the fashion industry.

This year’s winners come from 60 universities across the country. Winners have access to internships and full-time jobs through FSF partner companies and corporate recruiters at FSF talent acquisition events.

The Fashion Scholarship Fund is the foremost fashion-oriented education and workforce development nonprofit in the country and awards over $1 million each year in scholarships.

“It’s a great introduction to the industry because it can be very hard to get into the fashion industry without people guiding you along the way,” said Moreno, who also is minoring in art. “This project was challenging to complete but it was also very rewarding in the end to know I had put together this really innovative idea.”

Students interested in applying for the scholarship should contact Lyu or faculty member Greg Vessels.
