Research

Julia's research centers on understanding family dynamics and resilience, with a focus on how romantic relationships, marriage, and overall family functioning contribute to healthy development. Her interests include exploring ambiguous loss, attachment, and family stress theories to generate data that can foster resilient outcomes in children and adults. Julia is also dedicated to informing policy to support children of divorced parents and those in the foster system, with a particular emphasis on addressing parental alienation and the effects of personality disorders on family well-being.

Julia is dedicated to community engagement and advocacy, particularly in roles that intersect with her research interests. She recently was accepted to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Athens-Clarke County, where she will advocate for the best interests of children in the foster care system.

Current Research

Currently working under the guidance of Dr. Catherine Walker O'Neal, Julia is studying the elements of individual, familial, and financial well-being of military families through the Family Financial Readiness through Service Member Transitions (FFiRST) Study.
