- Why I chose my major
For as long as I can remember, I have loved spending time in the kitchen and experimenting with
new recipes and techniques. I also have grown to care deeply about holistic and preventative
women’s health and how that relates to nutrition. When one of the UGA Olympic Sports
dietitians (my current boss) spoke to my introductory nutrition class during my freshman year,
everything started to make sense. Since starting the dietetics pathway, my learning has been
fostered, and the intelligent, intentional, and supportive professors have provided me with a
competitive educational foundation required to achieve my goal of becoming an integrative and
functional dietitian in women’s health.- What I like most about FACS
My favorite part of FACS is the community of people that make it feel like home. The
professors, my cohort, and my friends have made a lasting impact on my life. They have all
supported me and contributed to me as I grew in knowledge, leadership, and empathy. FACS
opened so many doors for me. Whether that be studying nutrition abroad with some of my best
friends, leading the Student Dietetic Association and watching it grow, or being mentored by Dr.
Emma Laing, who is a genuine and invaluable force in our program., FACS has allowed someone
who once was a lonely out-of-state student to feel embraced by the warmth of this sweet
community.- Post-graduation plans
After graduation, I will complete my master's in Community Nutrition at the University of
Georgia in the spring and summer and plan to start my dietetic internship in the fall. Afterward,
I hope to become a women’s functional and integrative registered dietitian.
