Why did you choose your major?

I chose to pursue degrees in Social Entrepreneurship for Consumer Well-Being and Public Relations with a pre-law intent. Social Entrepreneurship study programs allow for creativity of classes combined with four required courses. This major was formerly known as the Consumer Journalism major in FACS and allows for a close partnership with Grady College.

Why did you want to be a FACS Ambassador?

My mother, grandmother, aunt and other adults in my life are all FACS graduates. This legacy has blessed me all my life. However, as a student from a rural area, I longed for opportunities to grow as a professional and make my own contributions. I found those opportunities through FACS. Now I am eager to enhance my leadership skills, meet new people and gain new perspectives, spread the word about what our college has to offer and do my part to give back to FACS and UGA.

What do you like most about FACS?

From my first day at UGA and despite the pandemic, FACS made me part of a caring community. The value placed on personal growth and family life extends to students, keeping us close, included and challenged. Our college invites all to be involved at the level we choose, and the opportunities continue after graduation. I recently attended the GAFACS convention, where I learned the history of FACS and witnessed the continuing support of professionals throughout their careers and after retirement.

What advice would you give to new students?

I urge new students to find opportunities to become involved in the college whether it is through FACS organizations, research, or simply introducing themselves to one of their professors. FACS is full of wonderful people who want you to learn to the best of your abilities and provide you with a wealth of opportunities.

Science Learning Center

What is one thing you wish more people knew about FACS?

I think a lot of people do not realize how diverse FACS majors are and that it is not just traditional homemaking classes as in the past, but those options are still available for those who are interested.
